A look back at Cypress Hills Business Partners

The Cypress Hills Fulton BID development effort
was launched during the COVID pandemic

Cypress Hills is home to over 300 small businesses who are there to provide everything residents might need as they catch the J train or arrive home. Some of the best Dominican and Caribbean food in Brooklyn is served here along with a mix of historic pizzerias, quick Chinese food, and coffee shops. Unlike many neighborhoods where national labels have consumed the local fare, Cypress Hills is a place for original small businesses. The neighborhood barber shop, corner bodega, family-owned hardware, and local variety store are still alive in this community. Many times the owner is who you see everyday.

The community is a short walking distance to one of Brooklyn’s largest parks, Highland Park which boasts 4 baseball fields, a new soccer field, nearly a dozen tennis courts, and 1.2 mile paved nature trail. Bordering the Jackie Robinson Parkway, Conduit Ave/Belt Parkway, and Atlantic Ave. the community is accessible to all parts of the city making it one of the best-kept secrets in Brooklyn.

The surrounding neighborhood is a traditional mix of one and two family homes, making the residential streets bright and walkable. One of the few Brooklyn neighborhoods not overcome with a wave of gentrification, Cypress Hills is a great place for young families and immigrants. The diverse faith community is vibrant and local leaders are vigilant, looking out for the community ensuring that safety and affordability are constantly monitored.

So if you want a slice of “small town” Brooklyn where businesses are locally-owned and neighbors know each other, Cypress Hills is that.
